About Us

The Magellan ethos is to 'make a difference'. Not only to the many investment clients we work with, but also the charities and good causes we are privileged to support each year.

And having seen the mistakes of others, we definitely have no wish to be empire-builders.  We will show you the benefits of choosing to work with nimble and agile boutique investment managers, compared to the homogenised, 'one-size-fits-all', approach of many of our larger rivals.

We also recognise that we live in the real world, where  even something as simple as always being easily contactable is a key to happy clients.  It's about controlling what we can, doing it well and doing it properly.

And About Our Style

Unfortunately, crystal balls don't actually work, nor are humans born with an ability to predict the future. Yet that's  what many investment guru's and market strategists would have you believe they can do. With roller-coaster markets, rapidly changing economies and huge gaps in their data, they simply guess what lies ahead and how markets will behave. It's no surprise to us that so many of them turn out to be completely wrong !

Our investment style is to focus entirely in the present, using what we can see, can touch and can control.  We place little reliance on experts telling us what markets should be doing, preferring to work with what we actually see them doing and where we see real investor money flows heading towards.  We follow evidence, not speculation, a style we hope removes us from the often painful land of guesswork, avoiding the risks of events not unfolding as experts expect.

In reality, this means we will look at only what we can see in front of us today, or at a push, within the 3-month period immediately ahead.  So much can change in the blink of an eye (COVID anyone ?), we think it's impossible to see out further than that with any degree of certainty or reliability.  So, we manage portfolios only in quarterly cycles, one after the other, where each cycle can then be joined to the next, building our longer term chain of investment performance.
